The Caller Council of the Hudson Valley!

The new Caller Council of the Hudson Valley (CCHV) has had four meetings since its inception June 2, 1996 at Stanley's Restaurant in Fishkill, NY. Seven callers and four partners attended that meeting led by Gerry Hardy, temporary Chair. We all enjoyed a good lunch, great conversation and a special presentation by Stan Burdick, CALLERLAB Liason. We are grateful for Stan's time and excellent input to this first meeting. We followed an agenda of various topics, and each caller was asked to add his or her input to the discussion.

Our most recent meeting was held January 25th at the Kingston Family Restaurant in Fishkill. Interested in the minutes?

ORIGINAL PURPOSE OF COUNCIL

We thought that a callers council in the Hudson Valley would be an excellent avenue for communication as well as dance planning and class curriculum discussion.

The square dance activity in the Hudson Valley needs a shot in the arm. Callers are in an excellent position to be a significant part of the revitalization that is taking place in the valley. We can be most effective if we join together and provide leadership and direction.

Our next meeting, to be held in June, 1998 at a place to be determined. This will be a dinner meeting, starting at 3:00 pm; and, as in our last meeting, we will limit the length of the meeting to about an hour. We plan to have an hour caller workshop. Traditional Square Dancing will be the topic. Slim Sterling will be the presenter.

The last meeting was held June 27, 1999;the minutes The Summer meeting of the Callers Council of the Hudson Valley was held June 27, 1999 at the Fishkill Methodist Church, in Fishkill. The workshop topic was teaching square dancing in the public schools. Gerry Hardy who is chairman of the education committee for CALLERLAB made the presentation. One of the main topics of this meeting was summer demos that each caller will organize. Several callers stated that hey were still in the process of organizing demos. Several of the previous opportunities have been eliminated and callers are seeking out other replacements. Chuck and Gerry Hardy stated that two demos that were planned are July 11 Hudson Valley Cruise and Pine Plains Appreciations Day by the Lions Club July 18th in Pine Plains. If your dancers have any ideas for demo opportunities, please contact us. Visit our website at http://chuckandgerry.com/clubhouse/CCHV
